| Volunteers needed to start community garden | February 27, 2010 @ 4:07pm | A group of neighbors has received permission from DeKalb County to begin planning a community garden at Zonolite Park. To get involved, email the Lindbergh LaVista Corridor Coalition at president@lindberghlavista.org, or phone 404.378.0818 (please leave a message if no answer). A planning meeting will be held soon.
The garden will be located on a 13-acre tract owned by DeKalb County at the end of Zonolite Place, immediately off Briarcliff Road at Johnson Road. The site has enough room for many people to grow flowers, trees and vegetables if organized in a careful, attractive way. The initial idea is to create a number of plots for families or individuals to 'rent' from the association with a likely annual cost of about 15 to 20 dollars. The county is willing to provide clean drinking water on site for a nominal fee. The only other cost is hard work and great exercise.
