Perkins+Will to Present First Report February 27, 2010 @ 4:12pm
As many of you know, we have been retained by the Lindbergh LaVista Corridor Coalition to assist in the planning process for the LLCC area. We will be kicking off this process with a presentation at the LLCC General Meeting on March 11, 2010. Prior to that meeting, however, I wanted to send a note to everyone that we sincerely hope will be involved in the process. This should be thought of as a beginning, an opportunity to evaluate, and reevaluate, those plans that have come before us, as we work toward a collective vision for the area.

The first step in this process is the creation of a compilation of all of the existing planning efforts, including the Blueprints document, although there are others as well; the Connect Atlanta Plan and the Clifton Corridor Transit Initiative, for example. We will take this information and reorganize it into a single document that will allow us to begin working with the community to identify opportunities and challenges with each plan and each of the proposals articulated in the various plans. This process should be understood as a beginning, and as such, our goal is to provide a consolidated document that reflects the desires of the stakeholders and the LLCC. Ultimately, this process will generate recommendations for action on each issue, but this can only happen with an in-depth discussion about each of the elements of any proposed plan. In these discussions and analyses, much of what has been previously recommended with be addressed, modified, or otherwise removed to insure compatibility with the vision the communities have for their neighborhoods. After all, this process is primarily about protecting and helping to insure viable, livable single-family neighborhoods, the bedrock upon which the city was built.

At the upcoming general meeting we will describe the proposed method for moving through the planning process and discuss how best to tailor this to the particular needs of the LLCC and neighborhood stakeholders. We not only welcome, but vigorously request any and all comments and opinions of plans that have been completed, ideas about the area and its future, as well as comments that address our proposals for moving forward in this process. The more participation we have in this process, the better the ultimate recommendations and plan will be. Our goal is to assist you in the creation of a vision for the future that is in accord with the communities' aspirations.
