March in Atlanta is the optimum time to consider your pruning and spring clean up needs. Pruning right before the new spring growth emerges on shrubs and trees enables your trained landscape professional a better view of the plant structure. While the branches are still naked of foliage, pruning essentially involves removing unnecessary or unsecure plant parts to improve the health, landscape effect, and value of the plant or tree. This should be done to supply the plant with additional energy for natural development of flowers, fruit, and new limbs or branches.

Pruning Parameters:

* Prune first for safety, next for plant health, and, finally, for aesthetics.

* Never prune trees that are touching or near utility lines; instead, consult a professional.

* Consider professional pruning services such as safety audits and storm damage prevention.

* Avoid pruning trees when susceptibility to pests or disease is present.

* Contact your landscape professional at Habersham Gardens to schedule a consultation.
