Coordinator Responsibilities

The Neighborhood Watch Coordinator acts as a liaison between the community, the DeKalb County Crime Awareness Officer and LaVista Park Security Patrol and is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Neighborhood Watch program. - Identifies each Section Vice-President of LaVista Park as a section coordinator. The By-Laws to the Constitution of LaVista Park Civic Association require the each Section Vice President shall act as a Neighborhood Watch section coordinator.
- Maintains a list of Block Captains.
- Assists Executive Vice President in maintaining a current roster of Association and Patrol membership and in forwarding to Treasurer any monies received by Watch personnel.
- Keeps Neighborhood Watch files and records as supplied by DeKalb County, Section Vice Presidents and Block Captains as well as the brochures, forms, hand-outs and Patrol signs necessary for the operation of the Watch program.
- Holds at least four meetings annually with Section Vice Presidents and Block Captains. One of these meetings must also include the Crime Awareness Officer. Other meetings may be called when major crime problems arise.
- Receives crime reports from the DeKalb County Police and LaVista Park Security Patrol and provides these reports to the LaVista Park Webmaster for Crime Alerts.
- Consults with Section Vice Presidents and Block Captains to determine accuracy of incident reports and if an Alert should be called before a police report is received.
- Provides the materials and information required by the Patrol and safeguards a key to the Patrol mailbox. Maintains regular contact with the Patrol leader.
- Gives a status report on neighborhood crime and Watch activities at each quarterly Association meeting as well as providing a Watch update for the Newsletter.
- Provides the Webmaster with the information necessary to maintain the Block Captain and Security page of the LaVista Park website.
- Assists Section Vice Presidents and Block Captains with their duties and provides the necessary materials.
- Installs and removes LaVista Park Patrol signs as needed.
- Assesses the needs of the community to determine additional problems such as juvenile behavior, vacant houses and drugs.
- Organizes a Neighborhood Watch resident sign-up program required by Dekalb County every two to three years to renew the Watch program.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee.
